Backstory:

In the not too distant future, a virulent plague threatens civilization and a countdown to full-scale invasion has begun. A heretofore unknown race of Aliens has established a secret colony on the outskirts of your home town. Only after reports of missing persons escalated in the vicinity of their colony did officials discover the scourge. Government intelligence has limited information, but has determined through numerous encounters with the Aliens, that their intentions are purely hostile. The Aliens' sole objective seems to be world domination at the expense of the human population. Countless attempts at destroying the Alien brood have failed. Scientists who have studied the Aliens behavior believe that the colony can best be characterized as a hive. Attempts at destroying the Hive have failed because much like a society of bees, scientists believe a Queen is at the heart of the system.

Queen The Queen lives. She is too well protected by the single-minded community of Aliens. The Aliens' sole purpose is to perpetuate the species by protecting the Queen and ensuring her continuous production of eggs. Eggs hatch larvae, which are naturally programmed to seek nourishment to survive and mature. Unfortunately, humans are the most plentiful resource to feed hungry new alien larvae. Once gorged on human, the larvae return to the collective to finish their development from larvae to pupa to adult. Adult drones patrol the Hive, protecting and guiding new generations of larvae and eliminating any threats to the Queen. Evidence shows that at maturity, aliens often surface and raid the nearest human population to bring back food for their young and the Queen. Beyond the obvious tragic daily loss of human life, scientists are concerned about the estimated explosion in Alien population. At its current rate, the Hive will be an unstoppable stronghold in a few weeks. At that point, the Aliens will have the power to launch a final invasion and decimate the Earth once and for all.

In no uncertain terms, you are the world's last chance for survival. You're the only remaining Alien Special Ops(ASO) veteran trained in extermination and counter-invasion operations. Your ASO comrades have all failed, but their efforts have provided valuable intelligence making you the best prepared ASO Exterminator to date. Your mission: To infiltrate the Hive, exterminate all aliens, rescue any humans left alive, and ultimately destroy the Queen. You carry with you the hope of all humanity.

Play begins on the roof of Stoll Chemical, a chemical processing plant that provided the infrastructure for the Hive's construction. Intelligence reports that the Hive extends through all floors of the chemical processing plant and probably through several subterranean levels - newly excavated by the Aliens to secure the Queen.

Revision History:

  • Invasion v1.4.0: Current version

System Requirements:

Invasion was designed to play on the widest variety of Palm OS® compatible devices in use to date. It requires:

  • Palm OS® v3.0 or greater
  • Minimum 425KB of free memory*

Broad compatibility demanded that Invasion graphics be based on 2-bit (4 shades) grayscale displays(supported on all Palm OS® v3.0+ devices). Invasion will run in grayscale mode on both grayscale and color devices. Color graphics may be added to future releases if we receive enough customer requests(take our survey). If a color version is released, registered users of Invasion will be able to upgrade at no cost.

Devices that meet Invasion requirements include Palm III™ series, V™ series, m100™ series, and m500™ series devices, Handspring Visor™ series, IBM Workpad™ series, HandEra TRGpro™, and Sony CLIE™ series, and other devices that support Palm OS® software v3.0 and higher.

*This is an estimate based on the application (Invasion140.prc) plus space for a saved game and the level database(InvasionLevelxx.pdb) being played. The average size of a level database is 25KB, so about 650KB is required to install the application and ALL the databases. This is a convenient option if space is available, but is not required to play Invasion.

Invasion Tips & Hints:

  • Tap walls at seemingly dead ends, they are the best places to check for secret doors.
  • Watch escaping Aliens carefully, they may lead you to a secret door.
  • Your force field does some minimal damage to attacking Aliens so use it defensively and offensively.
  • You don't have to destroy all the objects in the Hive cell. You complete a cell when all of your evil enemies are destroyed or have fled. Also, the ammo and supplies you find in a cell don't depend on whether you've destroyed crates or other objects in the cell.
  • Be careful when destroying crates, tables, and other obstacles, sometimes aliens are hiding in them and can surprise you.
  • Remember that Banshees, Formula D's and the Draco do not affect non-living objects in the Hive.
  • Grenades may take some practice to use correctly, don't use them against near objects or around cocooned humans.
  • Polari slice through multiple targets and because they keep slicing, do considerable damage to big volume opponents.
  • Try to use full ammo cartridges first to make room for any ammo you find in the Hive. If you find ammo but don't have room in your cartridge you won't be able to carry it.
  • The Queen's Royal Guard or "Boss" characters await you at the end of each level. If you encounter three doors, no doubt you are at level end and one of the Queen's Royal Guards are waiting. Pay attention to their behavior to gain the upper hand Some are vulnerable at certain times or take damage only in specific areas.
  • Don't be so quick to heal yourself with a Med Pak. If you think you can survive another Hive cell then don't waste one.
  • Conserve serums and gas mask filters as much as possible and always have at least one serum ready to cure yourself.
  • If you are poisoned, don't bother using a gas mask to protect yourself, you're dying anyway.
  • Try to finish a Hive cell quickly while using a gas mask or force field charge, the extra time you have left may help in the next cell you enter.
  • If you are in a hurry to finish a Hive cell, force eggs to hatch by shooting them. However, if you have the time don't waste your ammo. Save your ammo for the newborns.
  • Remember that you only have the opportunity to save once immediately after finishing a Hive cell. Think to save before navigating to another Hive cell.
  • Be sure to perform a HotSync® operation regularly. Each time you perform a HotSync® operation, your saved game is automatically copied from your handlheld to the Backup directory (look for it under ...\Palm\your user name directory\Backup). If your handlheld ever loses all of it's data, you can recover your last game by installing "InvasionSaveGame-HLin.pdb" from the Backup directory to your handheld.

Invasion FAQ:

Egg

How do I install Invasion on my handheld?
You must use the Install tool of your Palm™ Desktop organizer software and specify the Invasion files you want installed. Follow your Palm™ Desktop software instructions on how to perform an install HotSync® operation.
Why should I register Invasion?
As an unregistered user you are entitled to only a small fraction of first level play for evaluation. Becoming a registered user is very easy and you will have unlimited access to all 10 exciting levels of play. Also, as a registered user you will be entitled to update information and any future revisions to Invasion at no cost.
How do I get a Registration Code?
see above
I have just registered Invasion, do I have to reinstall the Invasion application (*.prc) file and Level 1 database?
No. You do not need to reinstall either the Invasion application (*.prc) file or the Level 1 database. However, you will want to install Level databases 2 through 10 as you descend to each new level.
Why isn't my Registration Code working?
First make sure you are typing the registration code exactly as specified and be sure to double check it before tapping the 'OK' button. If it still doesn't seem to work, e-mail Handlogic technical support at Handlogic Support. In your e-mail, please include your Hotsync User Name and Handlogic User Code(toggle the button in the registration form of Invasion to display each, see above). Also include your current e-mail address for verification.
If I buy Invasion, will I receive the next version for free?
As a registered user you will be entitled to update information and any future revisions to Invasion at no cost.
Is a color version of Invasion going to be released?
The Invasion Development Team wanted to create a game playable on the widest variety of Palm OS® compatible handhelds in use to date. Most handhelds are not color. However, if the Invasion Development Team receives enough customer requests to make it economically feasible to colorize Invasion, we will happily do so(take our survey or send suggestions to Invasion Development Team).
Where do I send my suggestions for improving Invasion?
The Invasion Development Team would like to here from you. Please send your comments or suggestions about Invasion to Invasion Development Team.
Will I be notified if an updated Invasion is released?
Yes. We will send notice to the e-mail address we used to send you the Registration Code.
I don't want to be notified of new releases. Can I be removed from your mailing list?
Absolutely, just contact Handlogic News Removal. Send it from the e-mail address you want removed from our list and it will be removed. Handlogic considers all customer data confidential and does not share any customer information with any third parties.
I have more than one Palm OS® compatible handheld, can I play Invasion on them all?
You can evaluate Invasion on each, but must purchase a separate Registration Code for each handheld that you want to play the full Invasion.
I just lost all the data on my handheld, how do I recover the game I had saved?
Each time you perform a HotSync® operation, your saved game is automatically copied from your handlheld to the Backup directory (look for it under ...\Palm\your user name directory\Backup). If your handlheld ever loses all of it's data, you can recover your game by installing "InvasionSaveGame-HLin.pdb" from the Backup directory to your handheld.
Why does the sound seem to fluctuate sometimes?
The game speed is regulated by a calibration algorithm that has to make adjustments occasionally on low-end devices. This adjustment may cause a brief moment of interruption in sound effects, although most users will not detect it. Calibration was required to achieve peak performance from every device Invasion is installed on.
I think I found a error. How do I report it?
First, verify that you are playing the latest version of Invasion by checking here. Check the version installed on your device by tapping the 'Help' menu then 'About Invasion'. The version number is printed in the upper right corner (e.g. v1.4.0). If you are not playing a current version, download and install the newer version and try playing again. If the error reoccurs, then please report it to Invasion Development Team. Please include the version number, a thorough description of the problem and the circumstances surrounding it so that the Invasion Development Team can reproduce the error and correct it.
I just quit and it seemed to pause for a long period of time. Why?
This is normal and only happens once after you descend to the next level. If you have completed most of a level and have saved the game, this saved game takes a lot of space in memory. When you descend to the next level and then save and quit the game, the data from the old level must be purged from memory. Purging can last a few more seconds than normal quitting depending on the device you're running on.

Do this by pausing the game, tapping the "Game Settings..." button, and selecting the "Endless Blaster Charges" option. Then when you resume play, you will have a full cartridge of blaster charges (but still limited).

However, during that game you will be unable to visit the levels you skipped and may miss key opportunities for power-up items and ammo. For example, if you decide to start on Level 8, you will not be able to visit Levels 1-7 during that same game.
